Polystyrene: A polymer formed by polymerization of styrene. This polymer's molecular structure consists of a hydrocarbon chain of alternating methylene and methine groups, with a phenyl group bonded to each methine. Polystyrene can be formed into a familiar low density material called Styrofoam.
