Illustrated Glossary of Organic Chemistry

Molar mass (molecular weight; MW): The mass of one mole of molecules.

For H2:
Molar mass = (2 x atomic mass of hydrogen)

= (2 x 1.00794 g mol-1)

= 2.01588 g mol-1

For NaCl:
Molar mass = (1 x atomic mass of sodium) + (1 x atomic mass of chlorine)

= (1 x 22.99 g mol-1) + (1 x 35.45 g mol-1)

= 58.44 g mol-1

For C6H12O6:
Molar mass = (6 x atomic mass of carbon) + (12 x atomic mass of hydrogen) + (6 x atomic mass of oxygen)

= (6 x 12.01 g mol-1) + (12 x 1.01g mol-1) + (6 x 16.00 g mol-1)

=180.18 g mol-1
