Hydride: (1) A hydrogen atom with a negative formal charge, H:- (the hydride ion), or a compound containing this ion.

(2) A molecule with one or more bonds between hydrogen and elements less electronegative than hydrogen (i.e., a molecule that delivers hydride to another molecule).
