Baeyer-Villiger oxidation (Baeyer-Villiger reaction): A reaction in which an aldehyde or ketone is oxidized with a peroxy acid or hydrogen peroxide to form an ester.


Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of acetophenone (methyl phenyl ketone) with trifluoroperacetic acid gives phenyl acetate.
