Anhydrous: Without water; dry. Pure sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is anhydrous. Hydrogen chloride (HCl) is anhydrous, whereas hydrochloric acid (aqueous H3O+ Cl-; prepared by dissolving hydrogen chloride in water) has no appreciable levels of HCl present.
